01

Focus on buyer intent

Effort shifts toward terms that signal a purchase or inquiry, and away from broad phrases that bring visitors who never convert.

02

One page per topic

Each keyword cluster has a single assigned URL, which prevents your own pages from competing and gives writers a clear target.

03

A realistic priority order

Opportunities are ranked by business value against ranking difficulty, so early work goes to terms you can plausibly win.

What Keyword Research involves

Keyword research decides where the rest of your SEO effort goes, so mistakes here are expensive. Chasing the highest-volume terms often means competing with national brands for searchers who are not ready to buy. Ignoring low-volume, specific queries means missing the people closest to a decision. Good research balances demand, intent, difficulty, and business value, and it accepts that volume figures from any tool are estimates, not facts.

We build the list from several sources: your Search Console data, competitor rankings, keyword tools, autocomplete and related questions, and the language your sales and support teams hear from customers. Terms are clustered into topics, labeled by intent, and checked against the live results to see what kind of page ranks. The output is a keyword map that tells you which page targets which cluster, what to create, and what to tackle first.

What is included

Deliverables you can point to

Seed and source collection

Terms gathered from Search Console, paid search query reports, competitor rankings, keyword databases, autocomplete, People Also Ask, forums, and customer conversations.

Intent classification

Every keyword labeled as informational, commercial, transactional, navigational, or local, verified by checking the page types that rank for it.

Topic clustering

Keywords that the same page can rank for are grouped together using overlap in the search results, not just similar wording.

Difficulty assessment

A manual look at who ranks for each cluster, their authority and content depth, and whether the results are dominated by brands, marketplaces, or directories.

Competitor keyword gap

Terms your competitors rank for and you do not, filtered to those relevant to your offer and sorted by estimated value.

Keyword-to-URL map

A spreadsheet assigning each cluster to an existing or proposed URL, with primary term, supporting terms, intent, and recommended page type.

Content opportunity list

New pages and articles worth creating, each with a working title, target cluster, search intent, and the questions the piece should answer.

Question and AI-query research

Conversational and long-form questions people ask search engines and AI assistants about your category, useful for FAQs, guides, and answer-focused content.

Process

How the work runs

Understand the business

We learn your products, margins, locations, and ideal customers, because a keyword is only valuable if the people searching it could become profitable clients.

Collect and expand

Starting from seed terms and your existing data, we expand the list through tools, competitor analysis, and question sources, then remove irrelevant and duplicate entries.

Cluster and classify

We group terms by shared search results, assign intent, and note search features such as map packs, shopping results, videos, or AI Overviews on each results page.

Score and prioritize

Each cluster is scored on demand, business value, and difficulty. We flag quick wins where you already rank on page two and strategic targets for later.

Map and hand over

Clusters are mapped to URLs, gaps become a content plan, and we walk your team through the spreadsheet so it is used, not filed away.

Questions

Keyword Research FAQ

How accurate are search volume numbers?

They are estimates. Tools model volume from sampled data, group close variants together, and often disagree with each other. Google Keyword Planner shows broad ranges for accounts without active ad spend. We use volume to compare terms relative to each other, then rely on your Search Console impressions, which reflect real searches, to refine the picture once pages are live.

Should we target high-volume keywords?

Sometimes, but rarely first. Broad, high-volume terms are usually the most competitive and the least specific about what the searcher wants. More specific queries have lower volume individually but clearer intent and weaker competition, and together they often add up to more qualified traffic. We typically build toward the broad terms by winning the specific ones around them.

How is this different from using a keyword tool ourselves?

A tool gives you a list. The value is in deciding what to do with it: which terms belong on one page, what intent the results reveal, where you can realistically compete, and how it all maps to your site structure. We also draw on sources tools miss, such as your own query data and the phrases customers use with your sales team.

How much does keyword research cost?

Pricing starts at $750 per project. Pricing is scoped per project through a custom proposal. It depends on the number of products, services, and markets covered, whether multiple languages or countries are involved, and how detailed the content plan needs to be. Keyword research can be bought as a standalone project or included at the start of a managed SEO engagement.

How often should keyword research be updated?

Review it whenever something changes: a new product line, a new market, a shift in how customers describe the problem, or noticeable changes in the search results. Search Console will keep revealing queries you did not plan for. For active campaigns we revisit the map periodically, adding clusters that have emerged and retiring targets that proved poor fits.
